Oracle Application Express 4.2.5 now available

Oracle Application Express 4.2.5 is now released and available for download.  If you wish to download the full release of Oracle Application Express 4.2.5, you can get it from the Downloads page on OTN.  If you have Oracle Application Express 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.3 or 4.2.4 already installed, then you need to download the APEX 4.2.5 patch set from My Oracle Support.  Look up patch number 17966818.

As is stated in the patch set note that accompanies the Oracle Application Express 4.2.5 patch set:
  • If you have Oracle Application Express release 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.3 or 4.2.4 installed, download the Oracle Application Express 4.2.5 patch set from My Oracle Support and apply it.  Remember - patch number 17966818.
  • If you have Oracle Application Express release 4.1.1 or earlier installed (including Oracle HTML DB release 1.5), download and install the entire Oracle Application Express 4.2.5 release from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN).
  • If you do not have Oracle Application Express installed, download and install the entire Oracle Application Express 4.2.5 release from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN).
As usual, there are a large number of issues corrected in the Application Express 4.2.5 patch set.  You can see the full list in the patch set note.

Some changes in the the Oracle Application Express 4.2.5 patch set:
  1. A number of bug fixes and functionality additions to many of the Packaged Applications.
  2. One new packaged application - Live Poll.  This was the creation of Mike Hichwa.  Live Poll is intended for real-time, very brief polling (in contrast to a formal survey, which can be created and administered via Survey Builder).
  3. One new sample application - the Sample Geolocation Showcase, created by Oracle's Carsten Czarski, who did a masterful job in demonstrating how Oracle's spatial capabilities (via Oracle Locator) can be easily exploited in an Oracle Application Express application.  Try it for yourself today on apex.oracle.com!
  4. A handful of bug fixes in the underlying Application Express engine and APIs.

APEX 4.2.5 should be the end of the line for Oracle Application Express 4.2.x.

  2. Hi Joel,
I have a small issue with sending html email after applying the patchset.
The mail I receive is like this:
    "
    test
    ----=:872FAF97961E34CFDFAE16E63433B937:
    Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8

    test

    ----=:872FAF97961E34CFDFAE16E63433B937:--"
    Text email works correctly.
I tried to do the same test on apex.oracle.com and everything works fine. The release is slightly different: 4.2.5.00.06 on apex.oracle.com.
    Database version is 10.2.0.4.0.

  5. rjc,

Thank you for reporting this. Can you help shed any light on this? If you examined the full message source of one of the emails from 4.2.5, did you see anything in the headers? Any errors reported on your SMTP server / MTA? What server or MTA are you using?

    Thanks.

    Joel

  6. For those you have experienced broken HTML email bodies from APEX_MAIL after applying the APEX 4.2.5 patch set, this problem has been identified and resolved. You can download patch 18658967 from My Oracle Support for this issue.

I apologize for any issues and lost time this may have caused.

    Joel

P.S. Many thanks to Igor from Croatia for helping to test this in advance.

  7. Hi Joel, many thanks in advance for your assistance. I have checked the version of my Oracle Apex and it is at 4.2.0.00.27

How does one tell if this is Oracle Apex 4.2.5, 4.2.4, or ... Is there a way to determine what the minor version (e.g. 4.2.n) is assuming that with 4.2, 4 is the release number and 2 is the major version.

    thanks a lot!

  8. Hi Pete,

There are a number of ways you can get this:

    1) select * from apex_release

    2) As a DBA from SQL*Plus: select version from sys.dba_registry where comp_id = 'APEX';

    3) If you're logged into Application Express, the version number should be in the bottom right footer of the page.

  9. Hi Joel,

I developed a small system in Oracle 10g and APEX 4.0 which I am trying to migrate to Oracle 11g and APEX 4.2

I am confused about several things and I hope you can help me understand

    a. My APEX version is 4.2.5.00.08

The last patch set I see in oracle.com is 4.2.5

Do I need to install that patch set in order to get latest fixes?

    b. Can anybody download that patch set? or it is only intented for clients/partners?

I am not Oracle client. I am using Oracle XE

When I look for that patch set they are asking for a "support identifier" and I don't know where can I get that.

    Thank you

  10. Hi Fabio,

    1) If you're running APEX 4.0, you can download the full APEX 4.2.5 release from OTN and install that, which will upgrade your APEX installation to APEX 4.2.5.

    2) However, if you're running APEX 4.2.x (e.g., 4.2.0, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, etc.), you'll need to download the APEX 4.2.5 patch set from My Oracle Support. To use My Oracle Support, you'll need a CSI (customer support identifier), which you typically have when you are a customer that is paying for support from Oracle. Unfortunately, if you do not have a CSI, you are unable to access the patches for Oracle software on My Oracle Support.

    I hope this helps.

    Joel
