Oracle Learning Library Advertisement Video

The Oracle Learning Library team just published a new advertisement video, promoting the Oracle Learning Library.  OLL is a great, free source for a lot of technical content on virtually every Oracle product.  Just be sure you turn your volume down before playing this video - the music is quite loud.

You may ask why I'm promoting this on an APEX blog.  Well, it's because:
  1. The Oracle Learning Library application itself is written in Oracle Application Express.
  2. There is a wealth of Oracle Application Express content available in the OLL.
  3. It's yet one more application that runs successfully on apex.oracle.com.  This application alone accounts for over 2M page views/events per week on apex.oracle.com

So much for non-production data being hosted on apex.oracle.com...hmm...

Well, when it's Oracle applications and data, clearly that's within our own policy (which we wrote). Same goes for asktom.oracle.com which is also hosted on apex.oracle.com.

Do you mean to imply that Oracle should not be permitted to use their own resources as they see fit?

Obviously you can do what you want with your own resources, but it seems silly to put a production application on a testbed server/database that anyone can effect.

I can easily degrade your server with poor programming (and no malice). Plus that server has been plagued by performance issues all the time.

Maybe its segregated - just think it is odd that you wouldn't use a different web server for internal stuff.

Dear "Buzz",

Perhaps you missed the blog post where I discussed the performance issues of apex.oracle.com in 2009 and how they were resolved: http://joelkallman.blogspot.com/2010/02/making-apexoraclecom-fast-again.html. It was a great learning experience for us, and hopefully our customers as well. Or maybe you missed the post where I have openly discussed moving Ask Tom to apex.oracle.com: http://joelkallman.blogspot.com/2009/09/ask-tom-moved-to-apexoraclecom.html.

Perhaps you didn't get a chance to read my blog post about using the Resource Manager on apex.oracle.com (http://joelkallman.blogspot.com/2009/08/oracle-database-resource-manager-and.html) or the reasons why we use it (http://joelkallman.blogspot.com/2009/08/why-i-use-resource-manager-on.html).

I have described apex.oracle.com as "the wild, wild West" before, and it still runs - which I think is quite an achievement unto itself.

Plus, when you say "that server has been plagued by performance issues all the time", are you referring to when I openly blogged about this and how we resolved it - 675 days ago? Can you please clarify what you mean by "all the time"? Is that 675 days ago?

All of this in the context of a post about a YouTube video. Fascinating, really.
