Application Express 3.1.2 Released

This afternoon we released Application Express 3.1.2. As for every patch set for Application Express, we released this in the form of a patch set on MetaLink (Patch Number 7313609) as well as a full release which can be downloaded from OTN. Thus:

  1. If you have Application Express 3.1 or 3.1.1 installed, you'll want to download the APEX 3.1.2 patch set and apply it.
  2. If you have Application Express 3.0 or earlier installed (all the way back to HTML DB 1.5), you'll want to download and install the entire APEX 3.1.2 release from OTN.
  3. If you don't have Application Express installed, you'll want to download and install the entire APEX 3.1.2 release.
Application Express 3.1.2 is inclusive of the modifications made for Application Express 3.1.1 as well as some new bug fixes. It also includes corrections for a couple of regressions (unfortunately) introduced in the APEX 3.1.1 patch set as well as the issues introduced in APEX 3.1.1 with the labels and 2D Flash charts. Lastly, we took Billy V's comments to heart and revised the patch set installation instructions (although I'm sure we'll get further opinions).

The Application Express 3.1.2 patch set was applied to http://apex.oracle.com on Wednesday, 27-AUG-2008.

Great news Joel,
i'm especially keen to see this patch installed as it promises to fix the session zero redirect issue and perhaps the other APP_ALIAS problem introduced with 3.1.1 (but i'm still not clear if this last point is present in the list of bug fixes.

Also, correct me if i am wrong, but the patchset cannot be downloaded if you don't have a metalink account and unfortunately XE users are not eligible for Oracle support.

For quite some time i bought the "development" support pack but i am not sure if such option is still existing.

I'll go for a full upgrade i guess.

Bye!

Hi Flavio,

You're correct. The patch set can be downloaded from MetaLink, which requires a customer support identifier. However, the full release of APEX 3.1.2 is available for download from OTN.

Joel,
i was wondering how a 3.1.1 user can upgrade to 3.1.2 if he cannot install a patch.
I mean, ok for the full installation, but that will wipe out the apex repository, won't it?
Actually if one tries to upgrade a 3.1.1 installation, apexins.sql will stop with errors.
Do you see any viable workaround other than obtaining the patch from someone else (which is also a violation of the terms and conditions most likely...)?

Or am i missing something?

Thanks,
Flavio

What would prevent someone from installing the patch set?

Joel,
as I said in my first comment, a XE user has no access to metalink, therefore he/she cannot download the patchset.

A user who didn't install the 3.1 can upgrade to 3.1.2 even if he has no CSI, but a user who upgraded to 3.1 or 3.1.1 cannot because the patchset is not available to the "public".

It's curious, isn't it?

Cheers!

Hi Flavio,

I understand your comment now. It isn't that a user would be prevented from installing this patch set. It's that a user would be prevented from *acquiring* the patch set.

Patch sets are available on MetaLink. This is consistent with past patch sets for Application Express. As well, this is consistent with other Oracle products. This is one of the benefits of being a supported Oracle customer.
